☕ The Parent Lounge

Frequently Asked Questions

The quick "guardrails" that keep our community running smoothly. Have another question? Reach out any time.

Does my child need to play soccer for me to be here?

Not at all! While "Soccer Mom" is the name on the door, it's really an archetype for any active, intentional parent. Whether your child is into music, chess, robotics, or just navigating the playground, if you're interested in Child First development, you belong in this community.

Is Dr. Tanya always in the Lounge?

I'm in the Lounge daily! While I can't respond to every single thread, I dive into as many conversations as possible to offer the PhD Perspective. Think of me as your resident coach — here to help you see the bigger developmental picture.

Can I ask for medical or psychological advice?

The Parent Lounge is an educational and collaborative space. I provide insights based on developmental science, but this is not a substitute for therapy or medical care. If you or your child are in a crisis or need a clinical diagnosis, please consult a local professional.

Who can see what I post?

The Lounge is a private community for members only. However, since we're a collaborative group, please remember that anything you post can be seen by other members. We ask everyone to respect the "Safe to Fail" rule: what's shared in the Lounge stays in the Lounge.

How do I manage all these emails and notifications?

We want this to be a place of peace, not another digital chore. You're in charge, and the default is quiet: until you tick a box, the Lounge never emails you.

Two checkboxes sit under the reply box every time you post.

  • Email me about every new reply in this thread. Good for a conversation you want to follow all the way through, like the Weekly Anchor.
  • Email me when someone replies to my post. Good when you've asked a question and only want to hear back about your own.

Tick one, both, or neither. Tick both and you still get a single email per reply, so you're never doubled up. To change your mind later, open the topic and use the two notification links near the top — no need to post again just to switch something off.

There's no daily digest here and no notification bell. If you'd rather have no email at all, leave both boxes empty and drop in when you have a minute. (The Lounge Letter, my monthly email, is separate and has its own unsubscribe link.)

Can I edit or delete a post?

Yes to editing, and you have 30 minutes to do it. We all have "oops" moments, especially typing one-handed at 10pm. Look for the Edit link in the small row of links at the bottom of your own post, fix what you need, and save.

After 30 minutes that link goes away, and deleting a post is not something members can do themselves. That one is on purpose: it stops anyone pulling a post out from under a conversation that has already replied to it. If you need something taken down, ask me in Ask Dr. Tanya or through the Contact page and I'll handle it quietly.
