Dr. TanyaKeymasterWelcome to the very first thread in The Parent Lounge!
As a developmental psychologist, I spend a lot of time looking at data. But as a parent, I know that the most important “data points” in our children’s lives don’t show up on a report card or a scoreboard. They happen in the quiet, messy, and often frustrating moments of everyday life.
To get us started, I want to hear about a “Process Win.”
What is a Process Win?
It’s a moment where your child didn’t necessarily “win” or “succeed” in the traditional sense, but they showed a skill—like grit, empathy, curiosity, or self-regulation—that made you realize they are growing into a resilient human.
🎤 I’ll start:
“When my oldest was in first grade, she hit a wall with a lesson on money. Instead of deciding she “wasn’t smart enough,” she took initiative. She pulled out an educational placemat during her after-school snack and spent twenty minutes studying the coins on her own. She didn’t master the math that day, but she kept coming back to it and asking for help when she got stuck. That moment was a “Process Win” because she chose initiative and persistence over the fear of being ‘wrong’.”
💬 Your Turn:
Tell us about a “Process Win” you’ve witnessed lately. * It doesn’t have to be big.
- Don’t worry about length or perfection. Even one sentence is a welcome contribution.
- It just has to be a moment where you saw your child (or yourself!) prioritize the journey over the result.
Drop your story in the comments below. I can’t wait to connect with you all!
