Dr. TanyaKeymasterStart here — what this community is about and how to jump in.
Hello and welcome! If you’ve ever felt like you’re parenting on “autopilot”—reacting to the daily chaos rather than responding with a plan—you are in the right place. The Parent Lounge is a collaborative space for the “Child First” parenting journey.
Whether your child is navigating the playground, the classroom, or the sports field, our mission here is the same: to put the child’s development before the world’s expectations.
🧠 Why we are here
I’m Dr. Tanya Semcesen. I founded this community to bridge the gap between developmental science and the reality of raising kids. As both a PhD and a parent, I know that knowing the science and living the science can be two very different things.
In this lounge, we don’t just talk about “fixes” or “hacks.” We look at the developmental why behind behavior so we can help our children build the resilience, autonomy, and intrinsic motivation they need to thrive from the inside out.
🗺️ How to navigate The Parent Lounge
Since we are launching as one big discussion room, we use Visual Tags to keep our conversations organized and easy to find. When you create a post, please select the tag that best fits your situation:
- 🟢 The Foundations (Ages 3–6): For the “Big Feelings” and early school years.
- 🔵 The Discovery Years (Ages 7–11): For navigating peers, school pressure, and finding interests.
- 🟣 The Launchpad (Ages 12–18): For autonomy, identity, and the transition to adulthood.
🤝 Our Community Principles
To keep this space supportive and science-backed, we anchor our conversations in three core “Child First” principles:
- Process to Progress: We connect the dots between effort and achievement. In this lounge, we don’t just celebrate a final result; we look closely at the hard work, problem-solving, and strategies that made that progress possible.
- The Secure Base: We prioritize connection. Our goal is to be the safe harbor our children can always return to after every challenge.
- Growth Mindset (Safe to Fail): We believe that skills and abilities are developed through effort and learning from mistakes. By sharing our “fails” in this judgment-free space, we model the power of “yet” – ensuring that every challenge remains a learning opportunity rather than a dead end.
🚀 Ready to jump in?
The best way to start is to introduce yourself.
Head to the very next post in the feed—The Icebreaker—and tell us about a “Process Win” you’ve witnessed lately. I can’t wait to hear your stories and connect (or gather or chat) with you as we navigate this journey together.
